DENTON - Four UNT players were named to the Pro Football Focus College All-Conference USA First Team, and five others were named to the Second and Third teams.
Sophomore guard Gabe Blair, senior linebacker KD Davis, junior defensive back DeShawn Gaddie and junior linebacker Mazin Richards were all named to the First Team after putting together successful seasons.
Blair, who starred locally at Denton's Guyer High School, started every game and helped pave the way for one of the top offenses in C-USA. Davis, who was also named this week as the C-USA Defensive Player of the Year, has already established himself as one of the most decorated players in program history after becoming the all-time tackles leader in last week's C-USA Championship Game. His 132 tackles is tops on the team by nearly 40 stops and he's the first player in program history to lead the team in tackles for four straight seasons. He also has three tackles for-loss, a sack, an interception and a forced fumble to go with four quarterback hurries.
Gaddie played in all but one game this season and had 56 tackles to go with 11 pass breakups (good for second on the team), two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. Richards was named to the team as an EDGE after proving himself on the FBS level this year by finishing fourth on the team in tackles through 13 games (77.0) and leading the team with 12.5 tackles for-loss and 7.5 sacks. His 12.5 tackles for-loss ties him for 45th in FBS.
Freshman tight end Var'Keyes Gumms was a second-team selection, as was senior kicker Ethan Mooney. Gumms burst on to the scene as a part of the Mean Green's potent tight end room and quickly became one of the focal points of UNT's high-octane passing attack. Gumms' 451 receiving yards set a new program record for receiving yards by a tight end. He was named to the All-Freshman C-USA team earlier this week. His five touchdown catches tie him for second on the program's single-season list for touchdown catches by a tight end - one behind Marcus Smith (2014). Mooney now has 325 career points and is the program's all-time scoring leader. His 102 points on the season is third all-time in single-season kicking points, trailing Cole Hedlund (2018) by six. Trevor Moore holds the single-season record with 115 in 2017. Mooney was 17-for-20 on field goals this year with a long of 49 and was 51-of-52 on extra points.
Freshman offensive lineman Febechi Nwaiwu, who was also on the C-USA All-Freshman Team, sophomore cornerback Ridge Texada and junior kick returner Kaylon Horton were all PFF third-team selections.
