Sinolungan Named C-USA Golfer of the Week

DALLAS - North Texas senior Patricia Sinolungan led the way for the Mean Green women's golf team to a win earlier this week at the Tulane Classic Presented by Chad Brownstein by claiming her first collegiate victory as she tied for the championship with Michigan's Ashley Lau, the country's 45th-ranked player.
Sinolungan helped UNT hold off a fight from No. 10 Michigan on the final day after ending Round 2 with a sizeable lead. For her performance, Sinolungan was named the Conference USA Golfer of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday. It marks the second time in her career she's won the award, with the first coming during her freshman season in 2019.
Sinolungan, who was having success with a new driver, battled blustery conditions on Sunday before firing the second-best round of the entire tournament on Monday with a 3-under-par 69, tying her teammate Audrey Tan, who finished third in the event. Sinolungan finished the tournament at 76-69-76-221 and led the field in Par-4 scoring and was tied for third in total pars with 35 in an event that featured just a handful of subpar rounds among the field of 93 golfers. She defeated three top-100 golfers, including two ranked in the top 40.
"I am very happy to see Patty honored by the conference. She works extremely hard and it always warms my heart when hard workers succeed," UNT head coach Michael Akers said. "Over the past few years, Patty's physical strength and mental toughness have improved greatly. In the past few weeks she upgraded her irons, wedges and driver. I feel it is making a difference. Of course, the credit lies with Patty and Patty alone. She is the one putting in the extra time training. I am not surprised by her win and certainly believe she will do it again."
The Mean Green will return to action on Monday and Tuesday at the loaded ICON Invitational in Humble, Texas.
