The Mean Green enter Saturday's contest alone atop the Conference USA standings with a 12-1 league record. Two games behind North Texas with five games to go is UAB who has won eight in a row at home and are 15-1 at Bartow Arena this season.Saturday's game is a rematch from the Jan. 6 matchup in Denton, which saw the Blazers come away victorious 69-63. UNT has not lost since then and has won 17 of its last 18 games dating back to late November. The Mean Green head into Saturday's showdown one of just two teams in the country who haven't lost a road game this season. UNT features the nation's No. 1 overall scoring defense holding opponents to an average of 55.3 points per game. They also have the nation's No. 1 road scoring defense as they've held it only gives up an average of 55.4 points per game on the road.
They face a UAB squad Saturday who is averaging 81.4 points per game.
North Texas is coming off a gritty 54-51 win at Florida Atlantic Thursday. The win ended the Owls 10-game home winning streak. UNT held FAU to 25 points below its season scoring average.
"We know we're facing a physical team who probably was more physical than us in the paint the last time we played, which is why they won last time," said senior Thomas Bell. "We have a lot of respect for UAB and are ready for another battle Saturday."
The road team in the UNT/UAB series has won seven in a row over the respective home team.
