DENTON — The North Texas men's basketball team will play its final home game of the year Saturday at 3 p.m. CT when they welcome Louisiana Tech to the Super Pit.
The game will be broadcast on Stadium and the Mean Green Sports Network, which can be found on The Varsity Network.
Prior to Saturday's game North Texas will honor its five seniors: Mardrez McBride, JJ Murray, Jahmiah Simmons, Hameir Wright and Thomas Bell. The five of them have helped lead North Texas to not just its nationally recognized season this year but also back-to-back conference championships in 2020 and last year in 2021. Furthermore, the program's first ever NCAA Tournament victory.
"There's no other way I'd want to play my final game at the Super Pit," said senior Thomas Bell. "But we respect LA Tech a lot. As much as any team. We know they're going to bring it and we have to be ready from the jump ball to give 100 percent."
(RV) UNT (21-4, 14-1 C-USA) heads into Saturday on a 13-game winning streak and winners of 19 of its last 20. A win Saturday would tie the program record for most consecutive wins and set the program record for conference wins with 15.
LA Tech (20-7, 11-4 C-USA) enters the game three games behind North Texas who sits in first place of the West Division with only three games remaining. UAB also sits three games behind North Texas with three games remaining.
Regardless of division the Conference USA team with the best overall record earns the automatic NIT bid. UNT heads into Saturday two games ahead of Middle Tennessee but owns the tiebreaker over the Blue Raiders.
After Saturday, the Mean Green travel to UTSA and UTEP next week for the final regular season games of the year before they begin the 2022 Conference USA championship in Frisco.
