LYNCHBURG, Va. - The UNT 400 freestyle relay team closed the C-USA Swimming and Diving Championships out in style on Saturday night with a bronze-medal swim to move the Mean Green into fourth place on the team leaderboard after they entered the meet's final event in fifth.
The team, comprised of Shaena McCloud, London Farris, Bryanna Vasquez and Alvena Walpole, edged out Marshall thanks to a strong third leg from Vasquez, who gave way to Walpole to extend the lead and bring home the bronze in 3:23.75.
The Mean Green finished the meet with 531 points, which marks the second-highest point total the team has put up at the Conference USA Championship - second only to the 2014 meet, which was North Texas' first year in Conference USA.
Over the course of the four-day competition, UNT won two medals - the 400 freestyle relay Saturday and junior Saylor Hawkins' bronze in the 3-meter springboard final on Thursday when she set a new program record with a score of 322.15. The team also secured eight top-5 finishes over the course of the four days.
