MADISON, Wisc. - Three Mean Green divers competed on Monday and Tuesday in the NCAA Zone D Championship and ended their seasons at the University of Wisconsin against some of the country's best.
Juniors Olivia Dollar, Brigid Krbec and Altaira Wallquist all competed, with Dollar and Wallquist going in the 1-meter springboard on Monday and Krbec competing in the 3-meter springboard on Tuesday. The trio earned the chance to compete in Wisconsin after achieving Zone qualifying standards in the respective events.
In the 1-meter prelim, Dollar compiled a score of 178.75, and Wallquist tallied a 149.35. Krbec took part in the 3-meter prelim on Tuesday and posted a score of 187.15.
"I'm thrilled that we were able to bring a whole squad to Zones this year," first-year diving coach Stephanie O'Callaghan said. "Being that it was the first time any of the divers have been to Zones, it was a great learning experience. We competed against some of the best divers in the country and learned a lot. This gives us good fuel for next year and lets us know what we need to focus on in order to come back next year and be more competitive."
O'Callaghan said she is looking forward to next season, when all the divers, including Conference USA bronze medalist Saylor Hawkins (another Zone qualifier), will return looking to have even more success than this year.
"I couldn't be more proud of the whole crew this year," O'Callaghan said. "It's been a joy to coach them all. They bought in from the get-go and gave me their trust and really shined this year. I loved watching them gain so much more confidence throughout the season and they had such a great showing at conference this year. The best part is everyone returns next year. I'm looking forward to building on the foundation we set this year."
