Tennis Claims Victory in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS – UNT Tennis picked up a 5-2 win over New Orleans on Sunday. The Mean Green earned an early lead after picking up the doubles point, and success continued.

DOUBLES

Lucie Devier and Maria Ponomareva were tied at 6-6 when their match was left unfinished.
Liisa Vehvilaiene and Saki Oyama came out on top, 6-3.
Jasmine Adams and Sophia Hummel had a dramatic 7-5 win to clinch the doubles point.

SINGLES

Devier breezed through her singles match with a 6-3, 6-3 win.
Adams struggled to find her footing in singles play. She fell 1-6, 3-6.
Vehvilainen added a point by prevailing 6-4 in set one and 6-3 in set two clinching the match.
Ponomareva fell 4-6 in set one before quickly bouncing back 6-2 in the second set. The forced third set went to the senior, 6-1 earning the Mean Green another point.
Zhou narrowly lost set one 6-7, but came back with a 6-2 win in set two. The third set was dropped 3-6.
After winning her first set 7-6, Oyama slipped in set two 3-6. She overcame the loss with a 7-5 victory in set three for another point.

"Today was a very successful day for us," senior Lucie Devier said. "Our team showed some growth through that trip. We saw great fight on every court. We are a family and we played for each other, and it was beautiful to see. We pushed each other through the match and came back home with a good win. We are persistent and resilient; I believe in this team and something amazing is coming for us."

UP NEXT

The Mean Green are headed home for their last home match of the season against Houston. The match will take place at Waranch Tennis Complex on Saturday beginning at noon.
