Â
The North Texas women's golf team returns to action in the UNF Collegiate beginning Monday.
Â
THE EVENT: The Jacksonville Golf & Country Club will play as a par-72 course at 5,926 yards. The teams will play 54 holes over two days beginning Monday, with 36 holes and concluding Tuesday with the final 18 holes. Monday will begin with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m., while Tuesday's final round will begin with a shotgun start at 7:45 a.m.
Â
THE FIELD:Â There are 17 teams participating in the tournament: Chattanooga, Central Arkansas, Cincinnati, Daytona State, Eastern Kentucky, Florida Gulf Coast, No. 46 Furman, Georgia Southern, Jacksonville State, North Florida, No. 49 North Texas, Penn State, Sam Houston, Stetson, South Alabama, Western Kentucky and Xavier.
Â
REPRESENTING UNT:Â Competing for the Mean Green will be Audrey Tan, Patricia Sinolungan, Emilie Ricaud, Ellie Roth and Shreya Pal.Â
Â
RESULTS: Live scoring and final results will be posted on GolfStat.com. A full recap will be posted on MeanGreenSports.com at the end of the day.
Â
LAST TIME OUT:Â UNT finished 13th at the ICON Invitational, which was loaded with ranked teams. Junior Emilie Ricaud finished 22nd and earned Conference USA Golfer of the Week for her performance.
Â
MOVING UP: North Texas has made significant strides since head coach Michael Akers took over almost six years ago. The Mean Green were ranked No. 201 following the 2015-16 season, and since Akers arrived in Denton, UNT has soared more than 150 spots from that time. The Mean Green head to Jacksonville ranked No. 49 nationally.
THE GOAT: Lauren Cox, who graduated last spring to finish off her stellar five-year Mean Green career, has attained partial status on the Epson Tour for the 2022 season, and she's currently on staff as a volunteer assistant coach.
Â
AKERS SAYS: "We are looking forward to playing in Florida," UNT head coach Michael Akers said. "The weather looks like it will be hot and breezy. I feel like we play pretty well in the those type of conditions as most of our roster comes from tropical climates. The golf course will be set up short compared to our other events so we have been preparing accordingly and focusing on wedges. We are one of the best ranked teams in the field so it would be nice to take care of business and leave with a victory."
UP NEXT: The Mean Green will head to Tucson, Arizona, to play in the MountainView Intercollegiate March 18-20.
Â
NEW FACILITY: The Mean Green golf programs are thrilled to break in their brand new Bruzzy's UNT Golf Practice Facility, the new $3 million on-campus facility that features state-of-the-art technology, such as TrackMan, swing catalysts, indoor hitting bays, a short-game area and a PuttView indoor putting green.
