Tennis Narrowly Falls to UTA

ARLINGTON – UNT Tennis dropped a 4-3 decision to UTA on Wednesday. Freshman Jasmine Adams won both of her matches including clinching the doubles point with partner Sophia Hummel.

DOUBLES

Lucie Devier and Maria Ponomareva made quick work of their doubles match winning 6-2.
Adams and Hummel clinched the doubles point for North Texas with a 6-3 victory on court three.
Saki Oyama and Liisa Vehvilainen trails behind 2-5 with their match left unfinished.

SINGLES

Hummel tripped in her singles match falling 1-6, 2-6.
Kexuan Zhou struggled 2-6, 1-6 in the fourth position.
Adams earned a dominant 6-3, 6-2 victory to tie the match.
Oyama battled through her match before falling 6-7 in set one and 3-6 in set two.
Vehvilainen dropped the deciding point after winning set one, 6-4. The freshman from Finland came up short in her second set, 4-6, forcing a third set that she dropped, 1-6.
Devier won her match and a third point for the Mean Green after sweeping set one 6-0, the senior fell 4-6 in set two. She took the match with a 6-3 third set victory.

QUOTABLE

"Another great performance in doubles, we got the start we wanted," head coach Sujay Lama said. "Unfortunately we weren't able to finish when we had them on the ropes in singles. It was good to see Jasmine break through today in singles. She is capable of getting on a roll and giving us a spark. We are competing hard and to close out these matches we have got to play aggressively and be fearless."

UP NEXT

The Mean Green will head to Tulsa for a match on Saturday. UNT will face the Golden Hurricane beginning at 11 a.m. CT.
