STILLWATER, OKLA. – North Texas dropped a heartbreaker to Oklahoma State 2-0, Sunday afternoon at Cowgirl Stadium to conclude their 2022 season in the NCAA Stillwater Regional.
"First things first, I'm proud of our team," head coach Rodney DeLong said. "We overcame a lot this year and played really well down the stretch when we needed to. We fought hard today. A lot of credit to Kelly Maxwell. She was really good today, even better today than she threw in Denton. She really controlled her off-speed stuff and kept us off balance, she was excellent. We fought and we fought until the end. I can't say enough about our group."
The Mean Green battled and held Oklahoma State (44-12) scoreless through the first five innings.
In the sixth inning, the Cowgirls scored the first run of the game on a solo homer to right field. Oklahoma State threatened to score another run in the inning, but Kalei Christensen recorded the last out of the inning at home plate.
The Mean Green (37-16) struggled on offense as they recorded only two hits on the day. Molly Rainey and Christensen were the only two players to record a hit for North Texas.
Ashley Peters started the game and pitched 3.0 innings before Skylar Savage relieved her in the fourth inning. Savage (15-8) was charged the loss and pitched 3.0 innings before Peters reentered to finish the game in the seventh inning.
