DENTON — The North Texas men's basketball team announced Monday it will host Fresno State on Nov. 19 at the UNT Super Pit.
This will mark the third all-time meeting between the two schools and the first since 1977. The schools split the previous two meetings.
North Texas has won a conference championship in three straight seasons. They are coming off of a program-record 25-win season. They won the 2022 Conference USA West Division regular season title and had the best overall league record at 16-2. The 16 league wins were a program record and they won a program-record 15 straight games during the season. They owned the nation's No. 1 scoring defense, giving up just 55.7 points per game. They reached their first ever National Invitation Tournament and made it to the second round after a 67-63 overtime victory over Texas State. UNT returns two starters as well as Conference USA Six Man of the Year Tylor Perry who led the team in scoring (13.5/game) and was voted first team all-conference. North Texas has added four newcomers to the mix for this upcoming season.
Fresno State is coming off of a 23-win season that ended with the Bulldogs capturing The Basketball Classic title, its second national NCAA postseason title in program history (1983 NIT). Fresno State is led by fifth-year head coach Justin Hutson who has guided the Bulldogs to a 69-53 combined record over the previous four seasons.
