Bleed Green Set To Compete In TBT

DENTON — A team consisting of former North Texas men's basketball student-athletes is set to compete in this summer's The Basketball Tournament (TBT) for team Bleed Green. TBT is an annual $1 million winner-take-all event.
The roster for Bleed Green includes UNT alums Thomas Bell (2022), Zachary Simmons (2021), DJ Draper (2020), MIchael Miller (2019), Ryan Woolridge (2019), and Shannon Shorter (2011). The team, which will be coached by current Mean Green director of basketball operations Andre Shaw also features 2014 DII National Player of the Year Brandon Jefferson (MSU Denver), American East 2007 First Team All-Conference Selection Jason SIggers (Albany), 2016 Lone Star Conference Tournament MVP Jordan Stevens (Midwestern State), SEC All-Conference selection Murphy Holloway (Ole Miss), 2020 All-MEAC Ron Jackson Jr. (North Carolina A&T) and 2020 Texas A&M graduate Wendell Mitchell who averaged 15.2 points per SEC game in 2019 and is the twin brother to former North Texas women's basketball student-athlete Velma Mitchell.
Bleed Green is the No. 7 seed in the TBT's Wichita Regional, which is set to take place at Charles Koch Arena, July 22-27. The team is set to square off with the second-seeded Eberlein Drive, an original TBT team, on July 22 at 1 p.m. CT on ESPN3.
Should Bleed Green prevail, it would face the winner of Purple & Black and Lone Star Legends Monday, July 23.
Two teams will advance from each of TBT's four regionals to compete in the tournament's championship weekend at UD Arena in Dayton, Ohio. Quarterfinals games will be played on July 31 with the semifinals on Aug. 1. The TBT Championship takes place Aug. 3.
