DENTON - A trio of UNT women's golfers punched their tickets to the U.S. Women's Amateur on Tuesday by finishing among the top seven spots at a qualifier at Texas Rangers Golf Club in Arlington.
Senior Audrey Tan, incoming junior Ellie Roth and incoming freshman Mason Lewis all qualified for the event, which will take place Aug. 8-14, at Chambers Bay in University Place, Washington.
Roth and Lewis both shot 1-over 73s on Tuesday and advanced out of playoff that included six players who shot 73. Tan finished tied for second after her 1-under 71. Tan will make her second appearance at the event after qualifying and making it through stroke play to the match play event last year in New York.
After two rounds of stroke play on Aug. 8-9, the field will be cut to 64 for five days of match play competition.
"I'm very excited and proud to see three of our players advance to the U.S. Am finals," UNT head coach Michael Akers said. "This is certainly a big deal. The No. 1 trait I am looking for in a prospective student-athlete is work ethic. Audrey, Ellie and Mason are showing that hard work pays. They are going to experience a great course in Washington, and I'm thrilled for them."
