DENTON - North Texas senior linebacker KD Davis and senior center Manase Mose were selected to the respective watch lists for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy and the Outland Trophy on Tuesday.
The selections bring the Mean Green's count to four national award watch lists, as Davis is also on the Butkus Award list, and junior receiver Roderic Burns is on the Biletnikoff Award preseason list.
Davis has led the Mean Green in total tackles for the past three seasons - the first UNT player to accomplish that feat since Zach Orr (2011-13) - and had 121 stops in 2021. He had 18 tackles in a win over Rice last season, marking the most tackles for a UNT player since at least 2000. Last season, Davis earned first-team All-Conference USA honors to go with second-team All-Texas College honors by Dave Campbell's Texas Football. He enters the 2022 season as a fourth-team selection to the Phil Steele Preseason All-American team looking to become the first player in program history to lead the team in tackles in four straight seasons.
Mose, who has started every game for the Mean Green over the past four seasons, has become a stalwart up front and helped spearhead what was the nation's fifth-ranked rushing attack (233.5 ypg) in 2021.
The Nagurski Trophy watch list is selected by the Football Writers Association of America and is awarded to the nation's best defensive player. A committee of voters will determine the winner, chosen from five finalists announced in November.
The Outland Trophy is awarded to the nation's best interior lineman - offensive or defensive - and ends are not eligible. The award will be presented on Dec. 8 at the Home Depot College Football Awards Show on ESPN.
