Soccer Hosts Oklahoma Thursday

DENTON — The nation's No. 4 scoring team, North Texas, will test its firepower Thursday night with a showdown against the Big 12's Oklahoma Sooners in Denton.
Thursday's match is scheduled to kick-off at 7 p.m. CT and will be streamed on ESPN+.
The matchup will mark the third year in a row the two schools have met. The Mean Green lead the all-time series with OU 6-2-1.
North Texas has started the 2022 season roaring with four straight convincing victories and 17 goals through the first four matches. That goal total is already more than half the number of goals they scored all of last season (17 matches). UNT's 4.25 goals per match average ranks No.4 in the nation as of Wednesday.
A key behind UNT's offensive success has been fifth-year senior Olivia Klein and the efficiency North Texas has been up front finishing.
Through the first four matches, Klein has scored at least one goal in every match. Her five goals so far are already a single season career high and are the second most in the nation.
But it hasn't just been Klein.
UNT's leading goal scorer last year Madi Drenowatz has played a huge role again this season as she's either scored or assisted on a goal in every match this year. Freshman Kat Burnell and junior Devyn Flannery have also added key goal scoring threats up top. Combine that with a midfield led by Taylor Tufts and Grace Dennis that has steadied the attack, UNT has scored four or more goals in all four matches this season.
It's the first time UNT has scored four or more goals in four straight matches since 1997.
Thursday's match against OU (0-2-1) begins an important four-match stretch for the Mean Green (4-0-0). After Thursday's match, North Texas hosts Texas State — who is undefeated as of Wednesday —, then at No. 15 SMU next Thursday and then closes out the non-conference schedule with a home match against Texas Tech on Sept. 11.
LAST TIME OUT
On Sunday at SFA, the Mean Green beat the Ladyjacks 4-0. UNT scored three goals before 22nd minute. Junior Taylor Tufts scored the first goal in the 2nd minute on UNT's first shot attempt.
ALREADY MORE THAN HALF
Through just the first four matches of this season, North Texas has already scored more than half the number of goals they scored all of last year. UNT has scored 17 goals through the first four matches of the year. They scored 33 goals all of last season. Through the first four matches last year they scored 13 goals with seven of them coming in a 7-0 win.
HOME FIELD DOMINANCE
Over its last 45 home matches, UNT has lost just twice. They lost 4-3 (2OT) to No. 15 Oklahoma St. on March 14, 2021 and 2-0 to Baylor on Sept. 2, 2021.
