Mean Green begin new era with UIW Twilight Friday night.
DENTON, Texas – North Texas cross country will begin its first season under new coach Erik Stevens Friday night with the UIW Twilight in San Antonio, Texas.
Â
"I'm super excited," Stevens said. "Number one, being my first meet as the head coach here, I've seen a ton of potential within the department. I'm just excited to get things going and get the program off to a solid start overall for both track and cross country."
Â
Competing for the Mean Green men's team will be Victor Neiva, Mason Garner, Luke Canon, Cade McAndrew and Nick Rodriguez. On the women's side, North Texas will feature Tiblets Abreha, Amy Pritchard, Miranda Vreeland, Brenna Zerby, Tori Tauch, Shannon Cook and Kate Hilty.
Â
"We're using it as more of a shake out, a real true rust-buster," Stevens said. "We're going to utilize it as a workout, as early in the year as it is. We're going to have them fairly controlled early, and then I'll turn them loose a little bit later in the race to see what their fitness level is at that point. We really just want to get out there as a unit, see how we race and see how we approach things."
Â
Post-meet team results from San Antonio can be found here, while individual results will be located here.
Â
The UIW Twilight is one of three regular season meets scheduled for the Mean Green, with one likely to be added at a later date. The season will culminate with UNT hosting the 2022 Conference USA Championships on Oct. 29.
Â
The Mean Green have back-to-back trips to Bryan-College Station scheduled with the Texas A&M Invitational on Sept. 16 and the Arturo Barrios Invitational on Oct. 15. The NCAA South Central Regional Championships will take place Nov. 11 in Bryan-College Station, and the NCAA Championships will be Nov. 19 in Stillwater, Okla.
