
Volleyball Suffer Defeat to Portland State

CORVALLIS, Oregon – UNT volleyball lost its final match of the Asics Invitational to Portland State 3-0 (25-16, 26-24, 25-15) at Gill Coliseum on Saturday.
Offensively, Treyaunna Rush collected a match-high 13 kills with Aryn Johnson and Truli Levy finishing seven and five, respectively. Avery McCrillis added three kills off of the bench.
Setter Ceci Harness accumulated 26 assists along with six digs and a kill.
On the defensive front, Taylor Litteken, Sh'Diamond Holly and Rush all finished with three total blocks. Aleeyah Galdeira contributed 16 digs and three assists.
Galdeira's three-match performance garnered her all-tournament honors.
Set 1: North Texas jumped out to an early 3-1 lead in the first with Rush accumulating 2.5 points with a pair of kills and combined for a block with Holly. UNT sustained charges and answered back with runs of its own but it was not enough as they would go on to drop the set, 16-25.
Set 2: The Mean Green captured the opening points in the second but were forced to play from behind in the first half of the set. UNT would level the score at 13-13 during a 3-0 run featuring kills from Rush and Holly. The two sides would trade the next 13 points to give the Vikings a one-point lead, 20-19. The back-and-forth streak featured three of Rush's kills along with finishes from Levy and McCrillis. Aryn Johnson would break the points exchange with three consecutive kills for a North Texas lead of 22-20. Despite Portland State tying late, kills from Harness and McCrillis would push the frame to set point for UNT at 24-22. The set would close with a four-point push from PSU to take the second, 24-26.
Set 3: UNT would drop the final set 15-25. The points were supplied from Rush with four kills followed by Johnson with three, two from Levy and Litteken recording one and a block assist with Rush.
Up Next: North Texas will travel to Waco for a matchup with No. 15 Baylor on Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 6 p.m. in the Ferrell Center.
