
Volleyball Fall to No. 14 Baylor

WACO, Texas – North Texas volleyball lost to No. 14 Baylor on Tuesday night in a 3-0 defeat at the Ferrell Center.
The Mean Green (5-7) were defeated by the Bears (7-2) in three sets, 25-6, 25-22, 25-20.
Treyaunna Rush tallied 13 kills to go along with six digs and two blocks. Sh'Diamond Holly finished with six kills on 11 attacks for a .455 hitting percentage followed by Aryn Johnson collecting five kills, six digs and an ace. Ceci Harness accrued a match-high 25 assists.
Set 1: UNT traded points with Baylor early, facing a 6-3 deficit, before a big run from the Bears pushed the set out of reach. North Texas would drop the first, 25-6.
Set 2: The Mean Green again swapped scores in the opening moments of the set before a trio of kills from Holly during a 6-2 rush elevated UNT into an 11-9 lead. The two sides absorbed haymakers from one another but the Mean Green would not back down. Rush would tie the set at 14-14 with a kill into the Baylor back row. North Texas would keep the score tight late into the frame featuring a 4-2 run bookended by a Truli Levy kill and block, respectively, to bring the score to 20-18. Both Holly and Rush would knock home two additional kills before the set ended at 25-22 for the home team.
Set 3: The third would open with a 45-second rally in which Brielle Worley would take five swings, Aleeyah Galdeira collected a pair of digs and finished with Holly slamming home the kill. The point would tie the score at 1-1 but established a tone for the remainder of the match. North Texas would ride that momentum on a 5-2 run with Rush collecting three points on a pair of kills and a solo block. UNT held a 12-9 lead midway through the third frame but began trading points with the nationally-ranked opponent, ultimately falling 25-20.
Up Next: The Mean Green will trek to Bozeman, Mont. for the Bobcat Invitational on Sept. 16-17 at Montana State University. North Texas will open with a doubleheader versus No. 18 Washington at 11 a.m. CT and then Boise St. at 4 p.m. CT on Friday, Sept. 16.
