
Johnson Leads Volleyball Past Bobcats

North Texas finishes non-conference slate with win
BOZEMAN, Mont. – Aryn Johnson led North Texas to a four-set victory over Montana State on Saturday.
UNT (6-9) wrapped up its non-conference schedule with a win against the Bobcats (4-8), 25-21, 25-22, 18-25, 25-16.
Johnson led the team with a season-high 17 kills on 29 attacks for a .379 hitting percentage. She added seven digs, two blocks and a pair of aces to pace her team with 20 points.
Treyaunna Rush and Sh'Diamond Holly contributed 13 and 11 kills, respectively, with Holly hitting .562 on the match and adding five blocks. She was named to the Bobcat Invitational All-Tournament Team. For the weekend, Holly had 25 kills on 44 attempts for a .455 hitting percentage with 15 total blocks.
Ceci Harness collected 34 assists, her highest mark of the season in a four-set match. Alexa Washington established a new career-high with 15 helpers along with five digs.
Set 1: North Texas charged out of the gate to a 6-2 lead with kills from its big three of Rush, Holly and Johnson. The Cats would pull level in the set before UNT responded with a scoring explosion to give itself a 17-15 advantage. The Mean Green would close the frame with an 8-4 stretch highlighted by Holly's solo block to push the score to set point. Rush closed the set with a kill to take the first, 25-21.
Set 2: A similar story was being written in the second with UNT taking a 7-2 lead before Montana State regrouped with a timeout. The timely pause aided the Bobcats to strike back and take the lead before a points swap began, bringing the level score at 13-13. North Texas went on a 4-1 scoring run to take back the lead and would hold it throughout the remainder of the frame for a 25-22 victory.
Set 3: Halftime adjustments were made and the Bobcats were able to take an early lead. North Texas would respond with a pair of three-point, unanswered runs but it came up short as the frame was lost, 25-18.
Set 4: The Mean Green sprang to a 5-2 advantage with a pair of kills from Rush and an ace from Aleeyah Galdeira. The opposition would attempt to pull itself back into the set, but North Texas would respond with waves of pressure. UNT never allowed the hosts to score more than two consecutive points in the frame, winning the fourth 25-16.
