
Volleyball Claims Victory to Open C-USA Schedule

BOCA RATON, Fla. – UNT volleyball began its final season in Conference USA with a three-set win against Florida Atlantic on Friday at FAU Arena.
The Mean Green (7-9) collected its fifth sweep of the year with the victory over the Owls (10-3), 25-18, 27-25, 25-15.
Team defense was on display, holding FAU to a .085 hitting percentage on 106 attacks, the second-lowest mark of the season. The North Texas defense was led by Sh'Diamond Holly and Taylor Litteken with four total blocks each and Aleeyah Galdeira collecting 20 digs.
Treyaunna Rush posted 11 kills for her 10th consecutive match with double-digit finishes and 13th overall. She was closely trailed in the match with nine kills from Aryn Johnson and Truli Levy. Holly efficiently added six kills on nine attacks to push her nationally ranked hitting percentage up to .394 on the season.
Ceci Harness dished out 20 assists and three digs with Alexa Washington adding 14 assists, five digs and an ace.
Set 1: UNT set the tone early, establishing an 8-3 lead with three blocks and two kills to force the Owls into using its first timeout of the match. FAU regrouped to pull within three points, but a 6-1 North Texas run would push the frame out of reach at 17-9. Six of the final eight Mean Green points would come from kills with Levy providing three during the run to take the first, 25-18.
Set 2: The two sides swapped points to open the second before North Texas put together a five-point run for an 8-4 lead. The Mean Green were in control with a 17-11 advantage before a late FAU push tied the set at 19-19. Kills from Holly and Rush along with an ace from Washington helped the visitors regain the lead at 23-20. The Owls rallied back to even the set, but UNT closed it out, 27-25.
Set 3: The Mean Green entered the third with a mission and executed from the first serve by scoring five unanswered with kills from Holly, Johnson and Rush. Despite the home side's best effort, North Texas would go wire-to-wire with four different runs of at least three points to take the final set, 25-15.
