
Rush Posts Career Night in Loss

ARLINGTON, Texas – Treyaunna Rush finished with a career-high 26 kills in a 3-2 (23-25, 26-28, 25-16, 25-14, 13-15) Mean Green loss against Providence on Friday at College Park Center.
Rush's performance marks the second-consecutive match in which she recorded 20 or more kills. She totaled 29.5 points adding five blocks, 12 digs and one service ace. Aryn Johnson contributed 15 kills while Sh'Diamond Holly, Truli Levy and Avery McCrillis accounted for eight finishes apiece. Ceci Harness was the beneficiary of the offense, setting a career-best mark with 57 assists.
The defense was highlighted by Holly who posted a season-high eight total blocks with Truli Levy and Harness both contributing five blocks. Aleeyah Galdeira also set a career-high number of 35 digs while moving up on the UNT career leaderboard. With a total of 942 digs, she slides into 10th all time and passes Eboni Godfrey (935) who played for UNT from 2011-2014.
Set 1: The match was very closely contested through seven points when Providence began to pull away. North Texas did not allow the Friars to get comfortable when it mounted a 7-1 run with four kills from Rush to cut the lead down to three points. The opposition pulled back the lead but a 6-2 UNT run held the set in check. The Mean Green would score two during set point before Providence delivered the final blow, winning the first 25-23.
Set 2: Extra volleyball was needed in the second after North Texas opened the set with a 7-2 barrage. The Mean Green offense continued to apply pressure but the Friars were able to keep composed. A late 5-2 run gave UNT set point at 24-23 but ultimately lost the second frame 28-26.
Set 3: Coming out of halftime, the Mean Green again jumped out to a 7-2 advantage with the front line of Holly and Rush contributing both blocks and kills. North Texas never allowed the set to get closer than a five-point difference after a 4-1 run put the team up 14-8. Four of the final five points in the set came via kills from Holly, Rush and Johnson for a third set win, 25-16.
Set 4: Riding the wave of momentum from the third, Porter's side started off hot again with a 15-4 scoring avalanche, including a 10-0 stretch. The big lead was held throughout the set for the second wire-to-wire set victory of the evening, taking the fourth 25-14.
Set 5: The final frame was tight from the first serve with North Texas recovering from an early four-point deficit with an 8-3 run. Kills and errors help push the Mean Green into an 11-10 lead late in the set. The two sides traded points and long rallies but UNT came up short, dropping the fifth set 15-13.
Up Next: North Texas plays two matches at the UTA Classic on Saturday, first against Texas A&M-Commerce at 1:30 p.m. and will close out the tournament versus UT Arlington at 6:30 p.m.
