DENTON — The back-to-back-to-back Conference USA champion North Texas Mean Green men's basketball team had its first official practice of the 2022-23 season on Monday,
Head coach Grant McCasland, who is entering his sixth season at the helm of the program and the Mean Green are coming off one of the most successful seasons in program history. They won a program record 25 games last year and won a program record 16 league games in route to the regular season title. They owned the nation's No. 1 scoring defense, holding opponents to just 55.7 points per game. That was also a Conference USA record. Between January and March of last season, UNT went on a 15-game winning streak, which is also a program record.
UNT this season returns nine from last season's championship team, including two starters and Conference USA first team all-league honoree and Sixth-Man of the Year, Tylor Perry. In addition to the nine returners, North Texas has also reloaded with six newcomers who are all expected to contribute to this upcoming season.
As Monday's practice wrapped up, McCasland spoke to the team. He looked up at the championship banners hanging in the UNT Super Pit and told the team, "Winning is not easy. To get one of those banners, you've got to want it to be difficult."
The Mean Green season begins Nov. 7 at home. Season tickets and single-game tickets are available now. Contact the Mean Green Ticket Office at 940-565-2527 or by emailing ticketoffice@unt.edu for more information on UNT hoops tickets.
