
UNT Volleyball Host Texas Southern On Tuesday

DENTON, Texas – Mean Green volleyball return home to the North Texas Volleyball Center for a midweek clash against Texas Southern on Tuesday at 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
This is the fourth meeting between the two programs with the most previous coming in 2011, in which North Texas swept the Tigers at the Lamar Invitational in Beaumont, Texas.
Despite the relative unfamiliarity of the teams, head coach Kristee Porter along with transfers Ceci Harness and Aryn Johnson competed against Texas Southern on Sept. 21, 2021 when Porter led McNeese to a 3-0 victory.
The Mean Green are coming off of a winning weekend at the UTA Classic with doubleheader sweeps of Texas A&M-Commerce and UT Arlington to close out the tournament on Saturday. Treyaunna Rush and Aleeyah Galdeira were named to the all-tournament team leading their team to a 2-1 record on the weekend. Rush collected 45 kills and 12 blocks while Galdeira had 64 digs over 11 sets.
Galdeira and Rush, along with their teammate Sh'Diamond Holly, enter the week ranked in the top 15 in the country in their respective categories. Galdeira is third with 141 digs as well as 13th in digs per set (5.42) with Rush in 12th with 100 kills and 13th with 113.5 points. Holly has anchored the defense at the net with 33 total blocks to place 14th in the nation.
Senior libero Galdeira moved into ninth place in the UNT record book for career digs on Saturday. She tallied 16 against UT Arlington in the second match of a doubleheader, bringing her total to 979. Galdeira passed Eboni Godfrey (935) and Kristin Sheppard (969) on the all-time list.
Offensively, North Texas is among the best in the nation currently ranking third in team assists (332), fourth in team kills (351) and ninth in team attacks (938).
