Mean Green take on Miami of Ohio and St. John’s Friday and Saturday
DENTON, Texas (Jan. 12, 2023) – The 2023 spring season for the UNT women's tennis team gets started Friday when they travel to Ft. Myers, Florida to take on Miami of Ohio on Friday morning and St. John's on Saturday.
Coming off a strong fall campaign, the Mean Green will look to continue the momentum into the spring season of dual matches. UNT takes on Miami (OH) at 8:00 AM CT Friday followed by an 11:00 AM CT contest against St. John's Saturday.
The 2022-23 roster features a number of fresh faces as six of the eight members of the team are newcomers this season including five freshmen.
The lone returners for the 2023 spring campaign are senior Kexuan Zhou and sophomore Jasmine Adams.
Adams returns as one of the top players in C-USA after being named to the All-Conference Freshman team a season ago and earning Second Team All-CUSA honors in singles play.
Zhou, meanwhile, brings a wealth of experience for the Mean Green having played over 40 singles matches and over 30 doubles matches in dual play in her career.
The roster also features four other student-athletes who had success in the fall semester in Gloria Alogo Piqueras, Olivia Halvorsen, Olivia Malm and Matilde Morais.
The quartet of newcomers helped UNT finish the fall semester with a 95-69 overall record across doubles and singles matches.
Finally, the Mean Green added a pair of strong international talents in freshmen Marina Adati and Nformi Stadfany. The duo gives UNT eight strong players for the spring campaign.
