TAMPA, Fla. – UNT volleyball defeated South Florida 3-1 at the Yuengling Center on Friday for its fourth American Athletic Conference road win of the season.
"I'm so proud of the team tonight," head coach Kristee Porter said. "They worked really hard in practice this past week working to fix some of the issues that plagued us during our previous match."
The Mean Green (12-11, 6-4) collected season highs with 69 kills and 10 service aces against the Bulls (13-8, 7-3) in a four-set (25-27, 25-17, 33-31, 25-23) conference rumble.
With its 33-31 third-set victory, UNT tied for its second-highest point total in a set win since the 25-point rally scoring began in 2008. North Texas won the set after Sophia Hagstrom recorded her first kill of the season on the seventh set-point opportunity of the frame.
"I thought we did a great job of competing tonight and not letting the other team go on long serving runs," Porter added. "It was a balanced effort across the board with several of our players having a good night."
Anyse Smith and Treyaunna Rush led the offense with 17 kills apiece, both season-high marks. Smith tallied seven of her kills in the pivotal third set and added five blocks in the match.
The American leader in attack percentage Sh'Diamond Holly paced her team at a .615 clip with nine kills on 13 attacks. She was followed by Truli Levy at .600 and Rush at a .316 rate.
North Texas accumulated 11 team blocks including seven in the final set. Holly and Smith compiled five block assists in the match while Levy saved all five of her stops for the fourth and final frame.
Kamryn Scroggins set a new season-best mark of 31 assists along with 10 digs for her third consecutive double-double and fourth of the year.
Fellow setter Ceci Harness tallied 25 assists in the match, 33 shy of the 2,000 mark for her four-year collegiate career.
Libero Aleeyah Galdeira recorded a match-high 19 digs while she added six assists and two aces.
