DALLAS — After the opening week of the 2023-24 season, UNT men's basketball junior Aaron Scott was named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week on Monday, announced by the conference office.
Scott led his Mean Green team to a pair of victories last week by averaging a league best 22.0 points per contest and scoring a league leading 44 total points. Scott scored a career-high 26 points in North Texas' season opening 83-77 home win over Northern Iowa on Tuesday. He followed up that performance with a game-high 18 points in a 75-64 win over Omaha on Saturday.
Scott sank seven of his 11 3-point attempts over the two games. His seven made 3-pointers were the second most in the league last week. Two years ago, as a freshman Scott made just six total 3-pointers over the 32-game season.
In addition to his efficient scoring, the 6-foot-7 wing last week had four blocks, 10 rebounds and averaged a league leading 38.5 minutes per game.
This is Scott's first conference Player of the Week honor of his three-year career. The Spring, Texas, native earned three Conference USA Freshman of the Week honors during the 2021-22 season. He later was named to the CUSA All-Freshman Team.
