
Volleyball Visits RV SMU for Conference Clash

DENTON, Texas – UNT volleyball plays its final road conference matches of the season at RV SMU on Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m. Both matches will be broadcast on ESPN+ from Moody Coliseum.
The Mean Green (17-12, 11-5) collected a pair of five-set wins over Rice at home on Friday and Saturday. The victories marked the first occasion in program history that North Texas defeated the Owls twice in one season.
Aryn Johnson led the Mean Green with 30 kills while Sh'Diamond Holly accumulated a .452 attack percentage and 16 total blocks. Anyse Smith impressed with 24 kills and hit at .372 clip on 43 attacks. Ceci Harness tallied 57 assists and Aleeyah Galdeira posted 39 digs over 10 sets.
North Texas have won six of its last seven matches, including wins over teams in the top-half of the American Athletic Conference standings. In the stretch, UNT leads its opponents in kills, assists, service aces, digs and blocks.
SMU (21-6, 15-1) holds the top spot in The American and enters Friday with an 11-match winning streak, including five consecutive sweeps. The Mustangs defeated Tulane on the road in a pair of three-set contests.
UNT have won its previous two meetings with SMU but trails the all-time series 3-11. The last meeting ended with a 3-1 victory for the Mean Green at Moody Coliseum on Nov. 29, 2019. Galdeira was the only current member to appear in the match and she finished with 24 digs, two assists, one ace and her first collegiate kill.
