DENTON - After ending the season with consecutive wins to cap off head coach Eric Morris' first season and the Mean Green's first season in the American Athletic Conference, the UNT football team had six players earn All-AAC recognition, the league announced on Wednesday.
Junior running back Ayo Adeyi, junior guard Gabe Blair and sophomore wide receiver Ja'Mori Maclin all earned second-team honors, while sophomore guard Febechi Nwaiwu, junior linebacker Jordan Brown and senior kicker Noah Rauschenberg were all third-team selections.
Adeyi and Maclin became the first running back-wide receiver duo for UNT to post a 1,000-yard seasons since 1968 (running back Leo Taylor and wide receiver Barry Moore), as both hit the mark in the season-closing win over UAB. Adeyi finished with 1,017 yards and six touchdowns on just 143 carries and his 7.11 yards per carry was the third best in program history. Maclin finished with 1,004 yards and 11 touchdowns, which was tied for sixth on the program's single-season touchdown list. Blair was the leader of an offensive line that paved the way, along with Nwaiwu, for an offense that finished ranked seventh nationally in total offense and averaged 495.8 yards per game this year, which was the second highest mark in program history.
Brown led UNT in tackles with 82 and added 5.0 tackles for-loss and 3.5 sacks, while Rauschenberg had one of the best seasons for a kicker in program history after hitting 16 of his 19 field goal attempts and making good on all 46 of his extra-point attempts. He also was the key reason UNT had the nation's best kickoff coverage unit, as only five kickoffs were returned all season for a total of 56 yards across 12 games.
