Volleyball Set for NIVC Opener at UTEP

EL PASO, Texas – UNT volleyball opens the 2023 National Invitational Volleyball Championship (NIVC) against UTEP on Friday at 8:30 p.m. CT. The match will be streamed on ESPN+ from Memorial Gym.
North Texas (17-15, 11-8 AAC) earned an at-large bid in the NIVC to mark the first postseason appearance since 2018 and fourth in program history. The Mean Green have won each of its previous two first round matches, in 2017 and 2018, of the NIVC.
The Miners (21-9, 11-5 CUSA) have won four of its last five matches and hold an undefeated 10-0 record at home this season. UTEP fell 3-2 in the Conference USA Championship semifinals to No. 22 WKU on Nov. 18.
In its most recent meeting, UNT won 3-1 over then conference foes UTEP on Oct. 28, 2022, in Denton. The Mean Green holds a 13-12 edge over the Miners in the all-time series record.
The winner of Friday's match will advance to the second round against either UT Arlington or Florida Atlantic on Saturday at 3 p.m. CT at Memorial Gym.
