Kernal Named American Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week

DENTON, Texas – After posting back-to-back double doubles in UNT victories, DesiRay Kernal has earned American Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, announced Monday by the conference.
Kernal averaged 23.5 points, 11 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 2.0 assists in the two contests.
She led the Mean Green to a 73-66 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff with a career-high 28 points on 7-of-12 shooting and a 12-of-18 mark from the free throw line to go along with 12 rebounds. Her next time out, she followed it up with a 19-point, 10-rebound performance against Alcorn State on Saturday that helped UNT extend its win streak to seven games.
A graduate transfer from Texas A&M-Commerce, Kernal currently leads the AAC in double doubles, free throw attempts, free throws made and total rebounds.
This is the first AAC Player of the Week honor for North Texas this season. The Mean Green have had a player selected to the weekly honor roll in the previous four weeks, including Kernal on Nov. 20.
UNT returns to action Sunday afternoon with its penultimate nonconference matchup of the season on the road at Louisiana in the Cajundome at 4 p.m. CT.
