Women’s Basketball Kicks Off Four-Game Homestand Thursday Against LA Tech

DENTON, Texas (Feb. 15, 2023) – Coming off a pair of road losses last week against UAB and Charlotte, UNT returns to action Thursday night when they take on LA Tech inside the Super Pit to start a four-game homestand.

It is the 21st all-time meeting between the UNT and LA Tech in a series that dates back to the 1989-90 season. The Lady Techsters have won three straight matchups in the series, including an 81-66 win over the Mean Green in Ruston, La., earlier this season.

LA Tech is currently 14-10 overall this season and 7-7 in C-USA play, just one game ahead of UNT in the conference standings. The Lady Techsters won back-to-back games over FIU and FAU last week at home but are just 3-5 away from Ruston this season.
Quick Hitters

Senior Quincy Noble leads UNT offensively with 16.8 points per game this season, a figure that is third Conference USA. Noble has scored in double figures 20 times this season for North Texas and ranks ninth in program history with 1,193 points in her career at UNT.
Sophomores Kendall McGruder and Aniyah Johnson have come on strong since the start of C-USA play. Both are averaging double figures in conference-only games with McGruder scoring 12.8 points per game and Johnson averaging 10.1 ppg.
Noble leads C-USA in field goal attempts while sitting in the top five in minutes (4th), FG percentage (5th) and points (3rd).
Ereauna Hardaway ranks fourth in C-USA with a 1.6 assist-to-turnover ratio on the year. The freshman leads the Mean Green with 3.4 APG.
In C-USA matchups, UNT has two of the top 10 assist leaders in the league as Hardaway ranks seventh and McGruder sits in 10th in the conference in assists per game.

Series History

LA Tech is 16-4 in the all-time series against the Mean Green.
The Lady Techsters won each of the first 13 meetings between the two schools. UNT has narrowed the gap, winning four of the last eight meetings including a win in the 2018 C-USA Tournament.
Head Coach Jalie Mitchell is the only coach in UNT history to defeat LA Tech.
UNT has two of the top shot blockers in C-USA this season in Tommisha Lampkin and Johnson. Lampkin sits fifth in the league with 1.2 blocks per game while Johnson is eighth at 1.0 BPG.
In total, the Mean Green rank third in the conference with 3.33 blocks per game as a team.
UNT has been successful thus far this season in games against teams who have defeated them earlier in the season. In four opportunities, UNT holds a 3-1 record in these games with wins over FIU, FAU and Rice.
The Mean Green are 5-13 this season when losing or tying the team rebounding battle and are 4-2 when outrebounding their opponents.

Lock In on the Lady Techsters

LA Tech comes into the contest 14-10 overall and 7-7 in C-USA play. The Lady Techsters have won back-to-back games heading into Thursday night's contest.
Keiunna Walker, the 2022-23 C-USA Preseason Player of the Year, leads the way for LA Tech averaging 17.3 points per game. Walker is second in the league in PPG and is inside the top-five in C-USA in FG percentage, FT attempts and makes, FT percentage and total FGs.
As a team, LA Tech is one of the top FT shooting teams in the country, ranking 12^th in DI and first in C-USA in free throw percentage. They also lead the league in FG percentage and 3-point FG percentage.

Things to Know

Thursday night will be Pink Out Night in honor of the Kay Yow Foundation. Fans are encouraged to wear pink and will have the opportunity to donate to the Kay Yow Fund.
