3/1/2023 12:01:00 PM | Women's Golf
DALLAS - After tying for second place and obliterating her own program record for low 54-hole score, UNT graduate student Audrey Tan was named the Conference USA Golfer of the Week, presented by Blenders Eyewear, the league announced on Wednesday.Â
The nod for Tan marks nine conference weekly awards for the program in the last 10 weeks the team has played, dating back to last season. It's the sixth for Tan in that stretch and the ninth of her decorated career.
Tan's T2 finish led her team to a second-place finish and a new program record for 54-hole team score (840, -24) at the ICON Invitational, which boasted a field loaded with 12 top-50 teams, including No. 50 UNT. She shot a 68-68-67 to finish at 13-under for the event, breaking her previous program mark by four shots. Tan brought her season stroke average down to 70.67, which leads the team. She had just one bogey over the three rounds to go with an eagle and 12 birdies. The event at the Golf Club of Houston featured 12 ranked teams, and only No. 10 Texas A&M topped the Mean Green. Tan, who entered the event ranked No. 89 in the country, was joined in the field by 17 other top-100 players, including three ranked in the top-20.
"Obviously, Audrey has had an amazing career here at UNT and done great things, but this week was really special," UNT head coach Michael Akers said. "She was consistent for three rounds in a row and beat many great players. This should really help Audrey to know she is one of the top players in the country. She told me she is dedicated to helping our team reach Nationals this year. That goal is certainly my priority."
The Mean Green will return to action March 17-19, when they travel to Tucson, Arizona, for the MountainView Collegiate.
Fans can follow the program throughout the season on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram and can check MeanGreenSports.com for tournament recaps and more.
