Women's Golf Finishes Strong At UCF Challenge

ORLANDO - The UNT women's golf team wrapped up play at the UCF Challenge on Tuesday and set a new program record for 54-hole score a day after setting a program record for lowest single-round score.
The Mean Green finished seventh at 13-under par with a three-round score of 851, crushing the previous program best of 861 (3-under), which was set at last year's MountainView Collegiate. They were paced on Tuesday by Audrey Tan, who bounced back from an opening-round 74 to shoot a 69 on Monday and a career-low tying 6-under 66 on Tuesday to finish tied for 14th at 7-under par. Ellie Roth shot a final-round 70 to finish at 4-under par in a tie for 23rd place. UNT finished ahead of five teams ranked in the top 50 nationally after entering the tournament just outside the top-50 at No. 56. The list of ranked teams UNT finished ahead of included No. 6 Texas A&M.
"I'm extremely pleased with our finish at UCF," head coach Michael Akers said. "We were handicapped by the ice storm but we were able to get to Orlando and make the most of our preparation. I felt like our game plan was great and we attacked the par-5s. The final round started slow but the ladies kept grinding and making birdies. This finish should certainly help our national ranking."
The Mean Green will return to competition at the ICON Invitational in Houston on Feb. 27-28.
