
Track & Field Records 22 Top-Three Finishes at UTA Invitational

Six Mean Green student-athletes took home event titles in the outdoor opener
DENTON, Texas – UNT Track & Field opened the 2023 outdoor season with six event titles and 22 top-three finishes Friday at the UTA Invitational in Arlington, Texas.
"I was happy with the performance this weekend," head coach Doug Marshall said. "We saw a lot of PR's throughout the entire competition. The support the team gave each other was great, and I think that pushed a lot of performances. We have some good meets ahead, so we have to continue to raise our effort each week."
Mackenzie Kuehl recorded a victory in her collegiate debut, winning the women's javelin with a mark of 139-11 (42.65m).
In the men's discus, Wardell Glaspie took home the win with a throw of 172-6 (52.58m).
The Mean Green took the top two spots in the women's shot put, with Jaleisa Shaffer winning the title with a throw of 48-10.5 (14.90m). Macayla Needham finished as the runner-up with a mark of 46-8.75 (14.24m).
Akeel Hanchard won the event title in the men's javelin, registering a mark of 201-0 (61.27m). Zion Hill made his return to action with a runner-up finish, recording a throw of 200-0 (60.95m).
In the men's hammer throw, Jake Parchman got the win with a mark of 182-9 (55.69m). Wardell Glaspie finished second with a throw of 176-10 (53.89m).
Brock Hottel earned the men's pole vault title with a jump of 15-7.5 (4.76m).
In the women's hammer throw, both Jaleisa Shaffer and Macayla Needham recorded personal bests. Shaffer placed second with a throw of 157-7 (48.04m), and Needham took third with a mark of 157-1 (47.88m).
Shaffer also placed second in the women's discus with a throw of 149-0 (45.42m), giving her three medals for the meet. Madison Sloan finished in third place with a personal-best mark of 145-1 (44.22m).
UNT took the second and third spots in the women's 4x100-meter relay, with Alika Crawford, Janai Williams, Jasmyn Reece and Tamyah Derrough placing second (46.96) and Glenquioa Hardy, Kendahl Tucker, Macy Burnham and Lauren Brown finishing third (47.18).
The women's 4x400-meter relay team of Alika Crawford, Favor Odimba, Tamyah Derrough and Lauren Brown finished in second place with a time of 3:55.95.
Mason Garner placed second in the men's 1,500 meters with a time of 3:57.08, Jomauri Murray took second in the men's 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.91, Kendahl Tucker was the runner-up in the women's 200 meters with a time of 24.96, Kennedy Adams placed second in the women's long jump with a mark of 18-3 (5.56m), Natasha Corkerton-Purchas finished second in the women's pole vault with a jump of 10-8 (3.25m), and Victor Neiva took third in the men's 3,000 meters with a time of 8:49.42.
Next up for the Mean Green is the TCU Invitational next Friday and Saturday, March 17-18 in Fort Worth, Texas.
