Men's Hoops Hosts NIT Second Round Sunday

DENTON — The UNT men's basketball team hosts Sam Houston in the second round of the National Invitation Tournament on Sunday at the Super Pit.
The Mean Green (27-7), who have won a single-season program record 27 games this year, are scheduled to tipoff with the Bearkats (26-7) at 3 p.m. CT. The game with be broadcast on ESPN+, the Mean Green Sports Network presented by Learfield and The Varsity Network App.
North Texas reached the second round of the NIT a season ago. They also defeated Sam Houston last year during the regular season, 65-55, at the Super Pit.
UNT advanced to the second round of this year's NIT with a 69-53 home win over Alcorn State on Wednesday. The win was North Texas' eighth NCAA national postseason victory in the Grant McCasland era. They are 8-3 all-time in national postseason games under the sixth year Mean Green head coach and 6-1in postseason games played at the Super Pit.
A win Sunday for North Texas advances them to the quarterfinals of the 32-team tournament and play the winner of Oklahoma State and Eastern Washington at a day and location to be determined later.
Tickets for Sunday's second-round game are on sale now and can be purchased here. Tickets start at $15 for upper general admission seating and lower bowl seating will be only $20, plus fees.
Current UNT students will receive free admission thanks to the UNT Division of Student Affairs, Department of Athletics, and through the generosity of several donors.
