Roth Cards Top-10 As UNT Women Tie For Sixth
3/19/2023 4:30:00 PM | Women's Golf
TUCSON, Ariz. -Â Junior Ellie Roth ended the MountainView Collegiate on Sunday in a tie for seventh place after shooting a career-best 207 to finish at 9-under par, tying the previous program record for low 54-hole score (207) that was bested just a few weeks ago by graduate student Audrey Tan.
The 44th-ranked Mean Green ended Saturday's second round in eighth place in the field that included 11 top-50 teams but climbed up to finish the event in a tie for sixth at 12-under par with UNLV, No. 41 New Mexico and No. 42 Tulsa. UNT finished ahead of three ranked teams - No. 34 Arkansas, No. 49 Nebraska and No. 50 North Carolina. UNT's 12-under score marked the third time in as many tournaments the Mean Green have beaten the program-record number as it stood heading into 2023.
Roth shot a 2-under 70 on Sunday to follow her career-best round of 6-under 66 on Saturday, and she was joined at 2-under by junior Shreya Pal. Senior Emilie Ricaud led the way in the final round with a 3-under 69 to finish the weekend at 1-under par in a tie for 33rd. Patricia Sinolungan and Pal tied at 1-over for the weekend, and Tan finished at 2-over.
"Overall, I'm pleased with our finish at the MountainView," UNT coach Michael Akers said. "I knew Audrey and Patty would be fatigued after they traveled back from the Asia Pacific Amateur on Monday. Ellie really stepped up this week, as she had great confidence coming off her finish in Houston. The team really fought down the stretch and made key birdies on the last few holes. Shreya and Emilie had nice final rounds. We should not get hurt in the rankings, and we're sitting nicely with one more regular season event."
The Mean Green will now prepare to host The Bruzzy, which has become one of the best tournaments in women's college golf, on April 1-2, at Dornick Hills Golf and Country Club in Ardmore, Oklahoma.
