 Â
AKERS SAYS: "I am sure Audrey and Patty will bounce back this week as they have had time to rest from their travels to the Asia Pacific Amateur in March," head coach Michael Akers said. "I was certainly happy with the way Ellie played in Arizona and how Shreya and Emilie stepped up in the final round there.
"We are excited to host The Bruzzy this week at Dornick Hills in Ardmore. Dornick Hills is Bruzzy Westheimer's home course and he recently spearheaded a course makeover. The course was renovated to reflect Perry Maxwell's original design. The greens are certainly the challenge and we have prepared over the past few months so our ladies should know where to hit the ball. Now it is a matter of execution."
MOVING UP: North Texas has made significant strides since head coach Michael Akers took over seven years ago. The Mean Green were ranked No. 201 following the 2015-16 season, and since Akers arrived in Denton, UNT has soared more than 150 spots from that time. The Mean Green are now consistently ranked in the top 50 nationally.
THE GOAT: Lauren Cox, who graduated in Spring 2021 to finish off her stellar five-year Mean Green career, has attained partial status on the Epson Tour for the 2022 season, and she's currently on staff as a volunteer assistant coach.Â
UP NEXT: The Mean Green will head to the Sunshine State to compete at the Conference USA Championship and look to claim a third straight conference championship, on April 13-15, in what is their final season in C-USA before joining The American on July 1.
Â
NEW FACILITY: The Mean Green golf programs are thrilled to have the new Bruzzy's UNT Golf Practice Facility, which is a $3 million on-campus facility that features state-of-the-art technology, such as TrackMan, swing catalysts, indoor hitting bays, a short-game area and a PuttView indoor putting green.
