Mean Green back in action next weekend for C-USA Tournament in Denton
HOUSTON (April 14, 2023) – Sophomore Olivia Malm picked up a strong win in straight sets at line four singles, but it was not enough as UNT fell 4-1 Friday afternoon on the road against Houston in the regular season finale.
The Mean Green finish the regular season 10-11 overall and will now wait to see their seeding for the C-USA Tournament April 20-23 in Denton at the Waranch Tennis Complex.
Malm was solid throughout the match, opening the day with a doubles victory at line two. Malm teamed up with Nformi Stadfany for a strong 6-4 victory to give UNT the early advantage.
Unfortunately for the Mean Green, the combinations of Jasmine Adams and Matilde Morais at line one and Kexuan Zhou and Olivia Halvorsen at line two both fell in narrow matches (7-5 and 7-6, respectively) as the Cougars took a 1-0 advantage with the doubles point.
In singles play, Malm tied things up for the Mean Green with a strong 6-1, 6-4 victory playing at line four.
After Houston took home a straight sets win at line one, the two teams found themselves in a nailbiter in each of the other four singles contests as all four went to a decisive third set.
In the end, however, the Cougars were able to secure wins at No. 2 and No. 5 to bring home the 4-1 victory.
The C-USA Tournament will start April 20 and run through April 23 at the Ranch with the Championship happening at 10:00 AM on Sunday.
