Women’s Basketball Signs Transfer Shamaryah Duncan to 2023 Class

Transfer from Wichita State averaged 7.8 points per game last season
DENTON, Texas (April 26, 2023) – Former Wichita State standout Shamaryah Duncan has become the newest member of head women's basketball coach Jason Burton's 2023 recruiting class.
Duncan, who will be coming to UNT having played three seasons at Wichita State with two years of eligibility remaining, started 28 of the Shockers' 30 games on the year and averaged 7.8 points per game.
In three seasons at Wichita State, Duncan appeared in 65 games with 36 starts. She has scored in double figures 11 times in her career with nine coming in the 2022-23 season, including a 13-point performance in the 2023 AAC Tournament Semifinal against Houston.
Duncan had a breakout year in 22-23 as she posted career highs in field goal percentage (34.5 percent), three-point percentage (30.2 percent) and free throw percentage (81.8 percent).
Additionally, Duncan was one of the top perimeter defenders in the AAC, regularly tasked with guarding the top player on the opposing team throughout the season.
Also a standout in the classroom, Duncan landed on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll twice in her three seasons.
Originally from Waco, Texas, Duncan attended Midway High School where she was a four-year starter and the Offensive Player of the Year and Super Centex Player of the Year in 2018-19.
