Women’s Basketball Adds Transfers Dyani Robinson and DesiRay Kernal

A pair of All-American transfers from Texas A&M-Commerce set to join UNT for 2023-24 season
DENTON, Texas (April 28, 2023) – The UNT women's basketball program added a pair of DII All-Americans to its ranks Friday as Texas A&M-Commerce transfers Dyani Robinson and DesiRay Kernal became the latest members of the 2023 signing class.
Robinson comes to UNT after having one of the strongest careers in program history with the Lions, earning DII Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) First Team All-America honors in 2021-22 and was an Honorable Mention WBCA All-American in 2020-21.
Kernal, meanwhile, was also an Honorable Mention WBCA All-American in 2020-21 and earned Second Team All-Southland Conference honors in 2022-23 with the Lions.
Both players come to UNT after spending the last four seasons on the TAMUC roster under UNT head coach Jason Burton.
In 2022-23, playing at the Division I level for the first time in her collegiate career, Robinson was off to the strongest start of her career averaging 17.4 points per game through the first 17 games of the year before missing the second half of the season due to injury.
In four seasons at A&M-Commerce, Robinson appeared in 95 games with 63 starts throughout her career. She averaged 14.7 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.6 rebounds per contest in her career while shooting 40.6 percent from the floor and 30.2 percent from 3-point range. Her 1,379 points ranks fourth all-time in TAMUC program history.
Robinson performed at a high level in big-time games with 23 and 20 points in road contests against Texas and Mississippi State, respectively, in 2022-23 and has averaged 23.0 points per game in four NCAA Tournament games in her career.
Robinson raked in a large number of accolades including being named the TABC Small College Player of the Year and Lone Star Conference Player of the Year in 2021-22 and the Lonestar Conference (LSC) Freshman of the Year in 2019-20.
Originally from Cypress, Texas, Robinson attended Langham Creek High School and was the 2018-19 District 14-6A Most Valuable Player, scoring over 2,000 points in her career.
Kernal joins the Mean Green roster as a three-time all-conference selection. She was vital to the Lions' run to the Southland Conference Tournament Semifinal, earning All-Tournament team honors after averaging 21.3 points per game in three contests.
In 2022-23, Kernal averaged 12.5 points per game and was second on the team with 6.7 rebounds per contest. She posted five double-doubles on the year, including a dominant 27-point, 15-rebound performance in the first round of the SLC tourney against Northwestern State.
Kernal was vital to the Lions' success after Robinson went down with injury, averaging 14.2 points per game in the 15 contests without Robinson in 22-23. In those 15 games, Kernal scored in double figures 13 times.
In her four years with TAMUC, Kernal averaged 11.3 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game while shooting 47.4 percent from the floor and 30.3 percent from 3-point range.
Originally from Newton, Kansas, Kernal attended Newton High School where she was a three-time 5A All-State selection.
