
Mean Green Kickoff 2023 Campaign On Thursday At UNLV

LAS VEGAS — The North Texas women's soccer team opens the 2023 season on Thursday at UNLV with an 8pm CT scheduled start.
Thursday's contest between the Mean Green, who are entering their 29th season as a program, and the Rebels will be streamed on YouTube.
UNT, which has won 16 conferences championships, is entering a new era as they transitioned to the American Athletic Conference this summer after 10 years in Conference USA. In CUSA, North Texas won a league record eight conference championships.
Thursday will mark the second time UNT and UNLV have met. The Mean Green defeated the Rebels 1-0 in Las Vegas in 2015. Current North Texas soccer strength and conditioning coach Michaela Kelsey was a student-athlete on the UNLV women's soccer team and started for the Rebels in the previous meeting.
The Mean Green have not lost a season opener since 2005. UNT is 16-0-1 in season openers since its last season opening loss. They enter Thursday having won 11 straight season openers and outscored those 11 opponents 52-4. Its last season opening loss came on Aug. 26, 2005 versus Eastern Illinois, 2-0, in El Paso, Texas.
After Thursday's match, North Texas returns home on Sunday to host Northwestern State for it season home opener. Sunday's match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. CT and will be streamed on ESPN+.
