Women’s 5K begins at 7:45 a.m., while the men’s 5K starts at 8:15 a.m.
DENTON, Texas – UNT cross country begins the 2023 season with the John McKenzie Invitational Friday at AP Ranch Championship Cross Country Course in Fort Worth, Texas.
Â
"I'm not putting a ton of weight on the TCU opener," UNT cross country coach Erik Stevens said. "For the men, being a 5K, it doesn't necessarily say a whole lot. Especially since we race 8K and 10K. But it will be a good gauge for the young guys since we're racing all freshmen this week. It will give me a good idea to see where they're at coming off of the summer and after these first couple weeks of training.
Â
The men's team at TCU will feature freshmen Hardy Swann, Alan Proenza, Jake Johnson, Landin Wolfe and Aiden Kirkpatrick.
Â
"On the ladies' side, I am racing everybody that's healthy," Stevens said. "So, we'll race six on Friday morning. But again, we're just using it to see kind of where we're at as a gauge. We're not going to put a ton of weight on the final result, just because it is so early."
Â
Competing for the women's team in Fort Worth will be Tiblets Abreha, Aditi Silwal, Trinity Trotter, Marisa Jacober, Amy Pritchard and Miranda Vreeland.
Â
"We're going to use it as a nice little rust buster," Stevens said. "We want to see how they approach racing and see how they approach the preparation the night before, so I have a better idea of where they're at mentally and then physically on the day of the meet."
Â
Live results will be provided by RunFAR Racing Services Inc. The women's 5K will get things started at 7:45 a.m. CT, while the men's 5K will begin at 8:15 a.m. CT.
