Soccer Drops First Match Of Year

The Mean Green (4-1) got a goal Thursday from sophomore Summer Brown. It's her team-leading fourth goal of the season. Brown has now scored as many goals this year as she scored all last year when she was named to the 2022 CUSA All-Freshman team.
"It's a tough loss, normally when these two schools square off it's a tight game," said head coach John Hedlund. "I blame myself on this one, I went with a system we used in the spring against Tech to tie them 0-0 but haven't used it all fall and it showed. Going back to our normal system in the second half we played better, scored an early goal and created some great chances but by then the game was out of reach. In the end will learn from this, it's only one loss and move on to the next game."
UNT's goalkeeper Maddie Ogden made five saves versus the Red Raiders (4-0-1).
North Texas will stay on the road as they travel to Oral Roberts on Sunday for a 1 p.m. CT kickoff. The match will be streamed on the Summit League Network. UNT defeated ORU last season 4-0. Then freshmen Kat Burnell scored a hat trick in the four-goal victory a year ago.
