DENTON, Texas – UNT Track & Field is headed back to Houston for the second meet time this season to participate at the Robert Platt Invitational over the weekend.
The Mean Green opened their indoor season at the University of Houston's Yeoman Fieldhouse for the Leonard Hilton Memorial Invitational. The Mean Green had three champions at the meet and 13 top-five finishes. Last week, the team went to Albuquerque for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational.
UNT will be one of 21 teams competing in Houston, including others such as Rice, Texas State, Louisiana, UTSA, Little Rock and UTA.
"I am looking forward to the opportunity to compete at Houston again," head coach Doug Marshall said. "Our athletes have been focused and excited all week to put some good performances together. We get to open the rest of the team up and get a good look at where we are at as a team."
KeAyla Dove leads the Mean Green into this meet after winning the shot put in both meets to start the season. She set the school indoor record and the American Athletic Conference record with a throw of 17.83m in Albuquerque. The throw was good enough to win the meet, and ranks her No. 3 in the nation in shot put.
On the men's side, Florida State transfer Sukeil Foucha has been a welcomed addition for the Mean Green. Foucha won the 800 meters in Houston to open the season and followed it up with a school record time of 1:51.83 at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational. However, Foucha will only be competing in the 400 meters and the DMR this weekend. Thrower Jake Parchman will also be headed back to Houston where he set the indoor school record in the weight throw at 19.30m just two weeks ago.
The Robert Platt Invitational is set to get started on Friday, Jan. 26 with the women's weight throw at 9:30 a.m. CT. The women's pentathlon will begin with the 60-meter hurdles at 11 a.m. and wrap up in the afternoon, while the men's heptathlon will begin Friday morning and conclude on Saturday. The men's and women's DMR's will begin running events on Friday at 4 p.m., followed by the 60-meter hurdles and 60-meter dash prelims before Friday's action concludes with the 400 meters and men's 3,000 meters finals.
The meet will resume Saturday morning with the men's heptathlon followed by field events beginning at 11 a.m. CT. The meet can be streamed at uhcougars.com/watch and live results will be provided by Flash Results.
