The Mean Green record five top-five finishes at the Robert Platt Invitational
DENTON, Texas – KeAyla Dove had a record-breaking performance for the second week in a row as the UNT Track & Field team wrapped up competition at the Robert Platt Invitational Saturday.
After setting a new program and conference record in the indoor shot put last week with a mark of 17.83 meters at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational, Dove followed it up this week with a throw of 17.85 meters. The throw ranks her No. 4 in the NCAA for shot put this season. She also set a personal best in the weight throw with a mark of 16.21 meters in a ninth-place finish.
"I'm proud of Keayla and how she has continued to improve each week she throw," head coach Doug Marshall said. "I don't think people understand how hard it is to do what she has done so far this season. I have to give a ton of credit to coach (Marcus) Brown and all the work they have put in. She's missed on some really big throws so this is definitely not the peak for her."
Four other Mean Green athletes collected top-five finishes at the Robert Platt Invitational. True freshman Rayona Runnels had the best meet of her young career, setting a personal best 5.93 meters in a third-place finish in the women's long jump. In triple jump, Kennedy Adams neared a personal best in her fifth-place finish. Her jump of 12.29 meters is her best jump of the season so far.
On the men's side, Jake Parchman continued his successful start to the season with his third top-three placement in the weight throw in as many meets. After two runner-up finishes, Parchman's throw of 19.05 meters was good enough for bronze in Houston.
A week after setting the school record in the 800 meters, Sukeil Foucha ran the 400 meters for the first time this season and placed fifth with a time of 48.41, marking the fastest time for North Texas in the event this season.
Emma Tindall placed seventh in the pole vault in her collegiate debut, clearing a height of 3.70 meters, while Dionna James placed eighth in shot put and Ricardo Levya placed seventh in the men's high jump. Jasmyn Reece and Jada Foster also recorded personal bests in the 60-meter hurdle prelims.
UNT will continue its indoor season beginning the month of February in Topeka, Kansas, for the Washburn Open.
