Mean Green take down Southeastern Oklahoma 4-0 after falling 4-2 to McNeese
DENTON, Texas – In the first dual matches in the tenure of first-year head coach Amanda Stone's career as the head women's tennis coach at UNT, the Mean Green picked up a 4-0 sweep of Southeastern Oklahoma after falling in the season opener against McNeese State 4-2.
UNT was dominant in doubles play all day, winning all four of the decided doubles matchups in the doubleheader.
Stadfany Nformi led the way for the Mean Green with a strong performance that saw her go 4-0 across singles and doubles matches and win both singles contests at line two in straight sets.
The doubleheader started strong for UNT, as they took lines one and two doubles against McNeese in sweeping fashion.
The combinations of Olivia Halvorsen and Nformi and Lou Chalard and Lilly Schultz both earned strong 6-0 wins to give the Mean Green a 1-0 edge in the match.
In singles play, Nformi was solid at line two with a 6-3, 6-2 victory to give UNT its second point of the match.
Unfortunately, that was all UNT could grab as the Cowgirls took wins at lines one, two, four and five to take the match 4-2.
The Mean Green turned things around in the second match of the day, again starting with the doubles point.
At line one, Stadfany and Halvorsen again teamed up for a strong 6-2 win. Then at line three, Marina Adati and Carolina Laydner were dominant in a 6-1 victory to clinch the doubles point.
In total, UNT outscored its opponents 24-2 in the four decided doubles matches on the day.
The singles play saw the Mean Green dominate once again, as none of the six players dropped a set in the match.
Stadfany was the first to clinch a point for UNT, winning at line two 6-0, 6-1.
Just behind her, Stanislava Shulzhenko got her first collegiate victory, winning in straight sets at line one 6-3, 6-0.
Laydner was the final player to clinch for UNT, winning 6-2, 6-1 to give UNT its first victory of the season.
Elsewhere in singles play, Lou Chalard, Lilly Schultz and Adati all had taken the first set in their respective matches and were poised for wins of their own.
The Mean Green will return to action Thursday when they welcome New Mexico State to Waranch Tennis Complex. The match gets going at 2:00 PM and fans can watch live or keep up with the live stats at MeanGreenSports.com.
