Kernal Named AAC Player of the Week

DENTON, Texas – UNT's DesiRay Kernal was named the American Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
Kernal led the Mean Green to two wins on the week, highlighted by Sunday's victory over UAB that gave North Texas an outright lead in the AAC standings. She tied a career high with 28 points on 12-of-15 shooting, while nearly capturing her seventh double double with nine rebounds against the Blazers.
On Wednesday, Kernal posted 19 points, five rebounds and five assists in UNT's comeback win over Tulane. Her stat line for the week consisted of 23.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists.
This is the second AAC Player of the Week honor for Kernal this season, with her first coming on Dec. 11. Along with four honor roll selections, Kernal has a total of six weekly honors this season, which is tied for the most in the conference.
UNT has won seven games in a row, tying its longest conference winning streak in program history. At 17-3 overall and 7-1 in AAC play, the Mean Green hit the road for two games this week at UTSA on Wednesday and Tulsa on Sunday.
