Edwards Named American Athletic Conference Player of the Week

DENTON — North Texas sophomore guard Jason Edwards was named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week on Monday.
Edwards helped lead the Mean Green to a pair of league wins in the conference's opening week. He poured in a conference-leading 54 total points over the two games (27.0 ppg) and sank 10 3-pointers over the two games. Edwards most notably scored 37 points on Saturday versus Tulane in UNT's 70-56 shorthanded win.
Edwards made his first eight 3-point attempts on Saturday and finished the game 8-of-10 from deep.
His 37 points scored and eight made 3-pointers are both the most in a single-game this season by an AAC player in any competition.
Edwards' heroic performance versus the Green Wave came less than 48 hours after he scored 17 points at Wichita State in the Mean Green's 74-62 conference opening win.
He is the second UNT men's basketball student-athlete to be named AAC Player of the Week this season. Aaron Scott earned the honor on Nov. 13.
Next up for the Mean Green is a home game versus Temple on Saturday at 5 p.m. CT. UNT will enter the game having won won 15 straight home games. The game will be broadcast on ESPNU and the Mean Green Sports Network, presented by Learfield.
