Mean Green picked second in preseason coaches poll
DALLAS – Senior forward Tommisha Lampkin was named the American Athletic Conference Preseason Co-Player of the Year and a first team all-conference selection as part of the preseason coaches poll and honors announced by the AAC on Friday.
The recognition comes after a stellar season that saw Lampkin earn first-team All-AAC honors while leading the Mean Green to their first conference title since 1986. She posted career highs in points per game, rebounds per game, field goal percentage, blocks, steals and assists in addition to leading the league with 13 double doubles.
Lampkin is the first UNT player since 2021 to be chosen as preseason Player of the Year. She shared the honor with South Florida's Romi Levy, who was a second-team All-AAC performer and the Co-Newcomer of the Year a season ago.
North Texas received three first-place votes while landing in a tie for second with Rice in the coaches poll. South Florida was picked as the preseason favorite in the American by the league's coaches.
The No. 2 ranking is the highest preseason prediction the Mean Green have received since they were projected to finish second in the Sun Belt's West Division ahead of the 2006-07 season.
UNT takes the court for the first time in the 2024-25 campaign with an exhibition game against Midwestern State Oct. 30 at 6 p.m. The season will officially begin on Nov. 4 with Alcorn State coming to The Super Pit.
