CHARLOTTE — The UNT soccer team is in the Queen City to face Charlotte for a midweek conference road match Thursday night.
First kick is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT and the match will be broadcast on ESPN+.
Even though the Mean Green (7-5-3, 3-3-1) and 49ers (2-7-6, 1-2-4) have been in the same league since 2014, Thursday will be the first time the two programs have played one another in Charlotte since 2017. They've met each of the previous two years in Denton but did not play one another during the regular season between 2019 and 2021.
Thursday will be the 11th all-time meeting between the two programs but just the third time they've played in Charlotte. North Texas is 2-0 all-time versus the 49ers in Charlotte. They beat the 49ers 2-1 in 2017 and 1-0 (ot) in 2015.
The 49ers enter the match coming off a 2-0 road victory at Tulsa. The win snapped a seven-match winless streak for Charlotte. However during that seven match stretch, the 49ers drew with No. 25 Clemson, South Florida, UAB and UTSA all by the score of 0-0. Charlotte has shutout six opponents this year, five of which have been league opponents, and enters Thursday having not conceded a goal over its last three matches.
Following Thursday's road match the Mean Green return home to face Memphis on Sunday for a late afternoon match. It will be the final home match of the regular season and will be UNT's alumni game. All alums who want to attend can sign up here.
